Inspect, buffer, collate and pack without damaging the primary pack.

End-of-line design absorbs normal stops, confirms selected quality attributes and converts individual packs into stable distribution units. It must handle the real pack condition—not an ideal cold, dry sample.

Describe the pack leaving the primary line

Record whether the pack is hot, wet, flexible, newly labelled, under vacuum, top-heavy or vulnerable to seal pressure. These conditions determine conveyor and buffer design.

Avoid impact and uncontrolled thermal shock; protect closure and label timing.

Light plastic bottle

Control back pressure, tipping and panel deformation.

Foil-sealed pot

Support the base and prevent lid lift or rim pressure.

Flexible pouch

Avoid sharp transfers, falls and compression on a warm top seal.

Control orientation, counting and bridging into bins or cartons.

Use accumulation to decouple short interruptions

Buffering can keep the filler running during a label-roll change or brief case-packing delay, but excessive contact pressure can damage packs.

  • Calculate the useful buffer in minutes or packs, not just conveyor length.
  • Check first-in/first-out needs and whether hot packs can remain stationary together.
  • Limit back pressure on labels, closures, pots and flexible bottles.
  • Provide controlled restart so a surge does not overwhelm the next machine.
  • Design safe access and glass-break or spill procedures.
  • Include the buffer in cleaning and allergen-changeover scope.

Groups retail or transport packs; film and heat exposure must suit the primary pack.

Tray and film

Supports unstable packs and provides visible collation.

Carton or case

Protects labels and glass; case size, board grade and packing pattern need definition.

Display-ready case

Adds tear features and print orientation requirements for retail handling.

Sachet collation

Count into bags, cartons or cases and control missed/double counts.

Palletisation

Set case orientation, interlock, layer pad, stretch wrap and pallet constraints.
