Define what jar preparation must achieve
Start from the product process and hazard controls. Empty-container equipment should deliver a stated condition at the filler, not simply perform a visible action.
Foreign-matter control
Remove or detect dust, fragments or loose contamination according to the agreed process.
Microbiological objective
Any sanitising or sterilising claim requires a validated method, exposure and ongoing control outside the scope of generic machinery selection.
Thermal conditioning
Pre-warming may be relevant to a hot-fill route, but pack-supplier limits and process validation are required.
Presentation
Orient, invert, drain and return jars to a stable upright position without damage.

Select a preparation method only after the need is clear
Air rinse
Can dislodge loose particles when the container is inverted; extraction, air quality and noise need review.
Water or liquid rinse
Introduces wetting, drainage and carry-over considerations; liquid quality and disposal must be defined.
Steam or heat treatment
Requires a validated thermal method and review of glass/plastic compatibility and operator safeguards.
No in-line rinse
May be appropriate when sealed clean packs and the validated process do not require a separate preparation stage.
A rinse may remove loose material but does not by itself establish a sterilised condition. Use precise language and validate the actual process requirement.
Prevent preparation fluid becoming a filling problem
Invert positively
Hold the container securely and verify that every pack reaches the intended angle.
Apply the treatment
Control nozzle position, pressure, volume and exposure as required by the method.
Allow effective drainage
Set drain time around container geometry, surface tension and line speed.
Return upright
Avoid impact, residual droplets on the finish and unstable transfer back to the conveyor.
Protect before filling
Minimise uncontrolled exposure and keep the container finish in a suitable condition.
Coordinate jar preparation with hot-fill timing
Cold glass meeting hot product can create a thermal-shock concern depending on the container and temperature difference. The container supplier and validated process must define limits.
- Record empty-jar temperature and the intended product temperature at filling.
- Define any pre-warm method and monitor the condition at the filler—not only at the heater.
- Prevent residual water diluting the product or wetting closure and label areas.
- Coordinate preparation output so jars do not cool or wait excessively before filling.
- Provide suitable guarding and safe intervention around hot surfaces, steam or liquid.
